1. God is the only Source of Life.

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. {Colossians 1:16}

We must start here. Everything, absolutely everything, in the universe can be placed into one of two categories: created and uncreated. We must start here because, if everything didn’t just appear at random, then it really matters which of those two categories we belong to. Which category we belong to will reveal an awful lot about our nature and purpose, the very meaning of our existence.

The fundamental starting point of truth in the Bible is that God is the Creator and there is no other. Everything that has been made—that is, everything that has been created—has been made by Him, and He is before all created things. That means that He inhabits the uncreated category, and everything else inhabits the created category. And nothing in the two categories can ever switch places, because they are defined upon the basis of their origins.

God has no beginning. He has always existed, from infinity past. Nothing preceded Him. Before there was anything else, there was God. Therefore, He is uncreated. And since He can never go back and have a beginning, He cannot inhabit the created category.

On the other hand, you and I and the rest of the universe had a definite beginning. If you go back far enough, you will find a point when none of us were here. Therefore, we are created. And since we can never go back and not have a beginning, we cannot inhabit the uncreated category.

God is the only uncreated Being in the universe, the only Source of Life. All other things that have come into being have been created by Him, and only in Him do they exist.
