God is like no other.

GENESIS 46

Perhaps a short one, but a good one, for today. There is no other god like God. Of course, the further you read the Scripture, the more declarations you find to that effect. But this is something we can learn about God without reading the declarations. Genesis 46 is a good example. First, God calls to Jacob in the night, telling him not to be afraid to go down to Egypt. God renews His promise to make Jacob (Israel) into a great nation there.

Then He says, “I will go down to Egypt with you.” (vs 4)

This God is turning out to be the total opposite of every other god that wins a mention in  scripture. He comes to His people, seeking them out. Then, He tells them that He’s going to go with them where they go. This is contrary to other gods in Scripture, who never talk to their subjects (even when begged) and are never heard promising to take trips with them. (Of course, this is because those gods don’t actually exist, but why let small details get in the way?!)

Do we need to worry about the prospect of wandering in this life? No, the God of the Universe, the God who created us is always coming to us. He calls to us, He stays with us, and He journeys with us. There is no other god like Him!
