God designed sex.

Proverbs 5

I can almost guarantee you’ll never hear someone get up at church and say, “Our Scripture reading this morning is from Proverbs, chapter five, verses 18 and 19: ‘May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer—may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love.’”

God has wide-open spaces.

God has wide-open spaces.

Psalm 118

My oldest daughter is almost nine years old, and these days, you really can’t have “the talk” too soon. Our culture has become so sexualized that, in some ways, it seems like we’ve been having bits of “the talk” for a long time already, but her father and I are going to have to start doing some more formal educating very soon. So all the related issues are weighing on my mind—sex, birth control, abstinence, abortion, etc. There are so many warped ideas advanced by society that it’s hard to know where to begin. I mean, to even talk about abstinence until marriage nowadays makes you seem backward and ridiculous. Sometimes, it seems a lot of people would rather find ways to mitigate consequences so our young people can just do “what feels good.”

God is the only shelter.

God is the only shelter.

Psalm 91

I read a blog online some time back that, frankly, made me a little sick. The author wrote about how he and his wife—in an effort to spice things up in their marriage—pursued a trail of endless drugs and multiple sexual partners… only to be left empty, loveless, and divorced. So sad! The author concluded by saying that while his wife often said that “More is more,” it didn’t turn out to be true when it came to sex.

God embodies goodness.

God embodies goodness.

JUDGES 19

I was amused when I heard about a Christmas ad campaign that ran in Washington D.C. a few years ago. It featured signs on buses that said: "Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness’ sake." I thought that was so odd, because what people don’t understand is that without God, there is no goodness. Without Him, we have absolutely no idea what goodness is. And my own personal belief is that people who practice goodness are manifesting the Spirit’s work in their lives—whether they believe in God or not. Outside of Him, there is no concept of goodness. He is the one who brought the idea of goodness to this world.
